Figures are a key part of many patent applications. They help illustrate components, explain processes, and support claims.
This guide explains how figures are created (automatically or manually), how to upload and describe them, and how to link figures to graph concepts using depiction edges.

Where do figures live in Patentext?
Figures are not visually represented in the Invention Graph, except in the Connections View, but are fully supported elsewhere in the interface:
- In the Outline Panel, figures appear under Brief Description of Figures, ordered by number.
- In the Node Panel, you can view and edit figure-specific metadata, such as type, description, and depicted nodes.
This setup allows figures to remain tightly connected to your draft.
Automatically importing figures from the Disclosure Wizard
If you uploaded diagrams during the Disclosure Wizard, Patentext will:
- Automatically create a figure object for each file
- Extract reference numbers from the image (when present)
- Link depicted nodes based on visual content
- Generate a detailed verbal description of the Figure in the Details field of the Node Panel
To check or edit these figures:
- Navigate to Brief Description of Figures in the Outline Panel
- Click on any figure to view or edit it in the Node Panel
Uploading a new figure from file
You can upload additional figures from within the Outline Panel at any time.
To upload from file:
- Click + Add Figure under Brief Description of Figures
- Select From File
- Upload one or more images (up to 10 at a time)
